The band has been getting ready to exhibit at Confex2012 under their alternate alias of MADHEN. We’ve been producing new brochures, t-shirts, live CDs and videos in between travelling across the UK and battling with some serious late night weather that wasn’t designed for fully loaded vans. The new MADHEN promotional material looks and sounds great including a cool medley of Kim Wilde’s “Kids In America” and Aha’s “Take On Me” recorded live at Old Billingsgate when we performed there for The Ultimate Experience. CONFEX is going to be a fun show. We’ll be playing twice a day on the main stage at the central feature where MADHEN PRODUCTIONS are supplying and running the stage for over 20 acts a day. If you’re near ExCel in London on the 6th, 7th or 8th of March pop in and say hi! You’ll be able to find us at stand P330 and if we’re not there we’ll be on the stage.

Earlier in the week, in our alternative guise as Madhen, we performed alongside former M.People vocalist Heather Small in the Ballroom of the Grosvenor House Hotel. The following night found us onstage before Go West at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Go West were fantastic. They played their hits ‘We Close Or Eyes‘ and ‘The King Of Wishful Thinking‘ as well as some new material and covers such as ‘The Stereophonics ‘Dakota’. Incidentally ‘The King Of Wishful Thinking’ appears on the Soundtrack of the  blockbuster movie  ‘Pretty Woman’ starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.

The Gig at the Ricoh Arena was for Kraft Foods, who we played for back in December….we were treated to a plethora of Cadbury’s Chocolate and Oreo cookies.

So 80s are currently working on a couple of studio recordings, which we will post here in the not too distant future. ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now‘( originally by Starship) and ‘Gold‘ (originally by Spandau Ballet). They’re both great  tracks and more than a little fitting in the exciting run up to the Olympic Games.

Stark is an actor based in New York where, until recently he was playing the lead in the Broadway hit American Idiot. The musical is based around the songs of Green Day. He has also appeared in the hit TV series Six Feet Under and Nip/Tuck and is currently making a pilot for a new CBS series Rookies. We were made extremely welcome by both the gorgeous couple and the staff of the amazing venue.

The gig was great fun. We played the Aha hit Take On Me for the first time (as specifically requested by Gemma and Stark) and were joined on stage by keyboard wizard Dave Bird for the whole set. One of the highlights of the night was an impromptu international dance off between the Brits and the Americans. Needless to say, with a group consisting of more than its fare share of Broadway performers, the dance moves ranged from the sublime to the outrageous.

Gemma and Stark said:

“We’ve done nothing but reminisce about the wedding since it happened and constantly talk about how incredible you guys were. When we booked you we both agreed that your performance was the thing we were most excited about on the big day and you didn’t disappoint!! Thank you so much for making it happen, you have made an indelible impression on the best day of our lives. We can’t wait to come out and see you perform again. Absolute A+”

A great day was had all round. Thanks again to Gemma and Stark for making us so welcome and we send our best wishes to the happy couple from all of us at So80s.
